2/18 Bohm Dialogue — Freedom and Responsibility

Most people do not really want freedom, because freedom involves responsibility, and most people are frightened of responsibility. – Sigmund Freud

Freedom and responsibility aren’t interconnected things. They are the same thing. – Harry Browne

With freedom comes responsibility, and I can think of no responsibility greater than putting on a U.S military uniform andstanding in the gap between an enemy threat and civilian life. – Zack Wamp

Men must stop being jealous of their power and generously allow freedom and responsibility to others. The reward is harmonious families and society. – Delphine de Girardin

As human beings, we are endowed with freedom of choice, and we cannot shuffle off our responsibility upon the shoulders of God or nature. We must shoulder it ourselves. It is our responsibility. – Arnold J. Toynbee

We, the People, recognize that we have responsibilities as well as rights; that our destinies are bound together; that a freedom which only asks what’s in it for me, a freedom without a commitment to others, a freedom without love or charity or duty or patriotism, is unworthy of our founding ideals, and those who died in their defense. – Barack Obama

What is freedom and what is responsibility? How are they related: opposites? the same? something else?

Join us to listen to what others think and to share what you think.  The Religious Exploration Salon is a group that meets 3rd Sundays to discuss various topics in the format called Bohm Dialogue which emphasizes respectful listening and balanced, synergistic sharing. For more details about how Dialogue works, please see this intro.

Everyone is welcome. You are welcome to think about the topic beforehand but no preparation is required or expected — come as you are with whatever thoughts/intuitions you have, ready to listen, learn and contribute.  We next meet Sunday February 18th at 7pm in the Brackett Room.
