Other Side of Hope

Join us for worship with a guest speaker Sam Williams.

We’re taught from a young age that “Hope” is a feeling or state of mind for a positive outcome or belief that something good will happen in the future. Most of us learn to hold on to hope as if it’s a one-dimensional idea with limitations. In this service, we will examine hope from all of its dimensions to fully understand what is on the other side of hope.

Sam Williams has been in the non-profit sector for over 20 years. He’s a native Bostonian and a graduate from Boston University with a Master’s Degree in City Planning. Mr. Williams was formerly the Senior Program Manager for Summer Search Boston, the Safe and Successful Youth Initiative, Commonwealth Corporation. Before obtaining these positions, he worked for many years at Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry as Chief Operating Officer, City Year Boston, and Youth Opportunity Boston, serving the Boston community in a variety of ways.

Mr. Williams has been instrumental in various initiatives across the city of Boston, including: prison rehabilitation and re-entry, impact of racial profiling, community economic development, urban planning, youth development, and public safety. He is currently the chair of the Community Advisory Board for Northeastern University’s Institute of Race and Justice. Mr. Williams is a former member of the Board of Directors of (ABCD) Action for Boston Community Development and an appointed member of the Executive Office of Public Safety, Massachusetts Racial Profiling Task Force. He is also a poet, writer, and trainer.
