Join us for our summer lay-led service: Diversity, Equity & Inclusion with Joy Aldrich.
As UUs, we believe in the inherent dignity and worth of every person. Our current administration, however, is attempting to criminalize Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. They stoke fear about anyone outside of the white, male, Christian, hetero, cis, wealthy, neurotypical in-group as “Other.” Marginalized groups in the U.S. are being targeted and are suffering state-sponsored cruelty.
Diversity, however, is a fact of nature. It is who we are, whether we like it or not.
“Diversity is our strength” is a slogan, but how and why, exactly, does diversity make us stronger? We’ll look at the fascinating research into this topic.
How is equity different from equality? Why does inclusion matter? What does it mean to have “white privilege,” and how can we use it to support people of color?
“DEI” has become a buzzword that, like “CRT” and “woke,” can have its meaning twisted by those in power. We will look at why language matters and how to use it.
The service will be held in-person only.
