We are pleased to announce that we have hired Aiden McMahon as our Resident Minister for the year. Aiden will start work at FPS on August 3 for a study month prior to the start of our Sunday Services on September 13, the Water Ceremony. During that time, he will attend the annual Trustees’ Retreat, meet with WAG, and generally get his footing at FPS. We hope you will give him a warm welcome when you see him. Under the terms of the Ministerial Residency Program, Aiden will be supervised by Rev. Parisa Parsa, who is currently the Interim Minister at Arlington Street Church. FPS has a Memorandum of Understanding with her that she will provide two hours of service per week, assisting Rev. McMahon and FPS during the year.
The newly created Ministerial Residency Program is an opportunity for ministerial candidates who have completed their academic studies and their internship to have parish ministry experience while they wait for their presentation to the Ministerial Fellowship Committee. This has been likened to the presentation of an oral thesis in other academic areas. We do not know when Aiden will be scheduled before the MFC. Part of the program created by the UUA requires that the Resident Minister have a Supervising Minister to provide guidance and feedback and, if necessary, to assist FPS in the process. Aiden graduated from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University in 2023 with his Master of Divinity, specializing in chaplaincy and religious education. He is currently wrapping up his year-long internship at Mt. Diablo Unitarian Universalist Church in Walnut Creek, California, and is excited to be returning home to New England. Born and raised in New Hampshire, he’s happy to be coming back to somewhere with seasons! Aiden enjoys bridging the theological and practical dimensions of ministry, having given presentations and led classes on subjects such as Biblical literacy, Christian Nationalism (and how to deal with it), and healing religious wounds. He is deeply grateful to be able to spend his residency year with FPS!
