First Parish in Wayland
225 Boston Post Rd, Wayland, MA
In-person and on Zoom
Join us for a Transgender Day of Remembrance vigil at First Parish in Wayland for an annual observance honoring the memory of those whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence.
Now 25 years old, Transgender Day of Remembrance was initially held to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in Boston in 1998. It has since grown in scope to be held internationally.
By publicly demonstrating support while challenging anti-trans legislation and negative rhetoric, religious institutions around the country can help turn solidarity with LGBTQ+ people and allies into a collective power to advance equality and justice and break the cycle of transphobic violence.
We will gather with clergy and members of First Parish in Wayland, First Parish in Framingham, and First Parish in Sudbury congregations. We will honor and remember those we have lost in the last year with candle lighting, music, speakers, and a reading of names.
All are welcome to join us.
