Sudbury Meetinghouse Concerts invites you to The Year to Save the Earth—A Multimedia Experience with Jim Scott!
The Year to Save the Earth
Mixing powerful songs and beautiful projected images, Jim Scott’s lyrical melodies and outspoken poetry take us from grieving to celebration, from protest to positive vision for the planet. Jim was awarded an NEA grant to present this multimedia concert in Worcester MA with band and chorus. As well as hard reality, the program’s message is optimistic with many invitations to join in the singing. Facing the urgency of the environmental crisis, the musical and visual experience challenges us to feel, learn, and act.
Composer, guitarist, and singer Jim Scott brings warmth and humor with his jazz and world music-influenced songs. He uses well a prodigious guitar mastery and a clear voice, to touch hearts with his messages of peace, justice, and the earth. Formerly a member of the Paul Winter Consort, Jim was co-composer of their celebrated “Missa Gaia/Earth Mass” and sang their anthem song “Common Ground.” He has toured the world, recorded several CDs of original music, and published a growing line of choral works.
Jim’s also visited over 700 Unitarian Universalist churches, and several of his songs are in the UU Hymnbooks. A co-creator of the “Green Sanctuary” program for churches to become more sustainable, Jim also compiled the “Earth and Spirit Songbook,” an anthology of over 100 songs of earth and peace. He has been an artist in residence or visiting faculty at schools such as Oberlin College and enjoys putting young people in touch with their innate creativity and the power of musical expression.
