Spiritual Book Group News April 11, 2018

The Spiritual Book Group is reading Deep Work- Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World by Cal Newport. “A mix of cultural criticism and actionable advice, Deep Work takes the reader on a journey through memorable stories - from Carl Jung building a stone tower in the woods to focus his mind, to a social media pioneer buying a round-trip business class ticket to Tokyo to write a book free from distraction in the air - and no-nonsense advice, such as the claim that most serious professionals should quit social media and that you should practice being bored."  Go to http://theshawnstevensonmodel.com/deep-work/ which is a podcast of The Model Health Show featuring an interview with Cal Newport.

Our next meeting on Saturday June 9 10:30 am-12 noon. Please come if you're interested in this topic even if you haven't had time to finish the book.  We will be ranking potential books to read for next year after we discuss Deep Work.  At our last meeting we decided to add fictional books as well.
These are the new additions which we might choose from:
Cloud Atlas - David Mitchell
The Red Tent - Anita Diamant
Prodigal Summer - Barbara Kingsolver
The Alchemist - Paulo Coelho
The Sacred Journey of the Peaceful Warrior - Dan Millman
The Four Agreements: a Practical Guide to Personal Freedom (A Toltec Wisdom Book) - Don Miguel Ruiz
Breakfast with the Buddha - Roland Merullo
Siddhartha - Herman Hesse

We meet about every 2-3 months on the second Saturday of the month from 10:30- noon in the Brackett Room.
