Why and how did some religiously “liberal” Congregationalists (now know as the United Church of Christ) find their way out of the faith and into Transcendentalism? Why would Ralph Waldo Emerson decide to leave ministry while others such as Henry David Thoreau chose to live in a cabin on Walden Pond? Unsatisfied with the status quo of their religion, seekers have been searching for answers to an age old question, “where can I find authenticity and meaning in my life?” This Sunday, Rev. Dr. Marjorie Matty will be wondering/speculating about why Congregationalists chose to migrate from their faith and how this evolution of belief ultimately evolved into the openness of Unitarian Universalism.
