Have you ever wondered how a congregation such as First Parish governs itself? How the membership makes decisions and sets the budget and agenda for the upcoming year? Did you know that there is a Board of Trustees, a clerk and a moderator that help to direct the congregation during an annual meeting? Do you know about Roberts rules and the excitement that can ensue during a lively debate about important projects and budgetary concerns? Today is the day to learn about the requirements of membership, the annual meeting and the Robert that has been bossing us all around for a couple of centuries. Rev. Dr. Marjorie Matty will discus the governance and polity so beloved in Unitarian Universalist congregations. Afterward the members of First Parish will be participating in our Annual Meeting, beginning at 11:30ish, a tradition since the inception of congregational polity and New England Congregationalism. All are welcome to attend and participate, however, only members can vote.
