It is mid November and Thanksgiving is almost upon us. What are we thankful for? WARNING: The manufacturing industry began revving their marketing engines in August to engage our holiday thinking about seasonal greetings and purchases. Instead of basking in the holiday glow the day after Thanksgiving we are encouraged to go big to retail or stay home on “Black Friday,” the BIGGEST shopping day of the year!
Really? At a time when we acknowledge our thankfulness for all of the blessings that we have in our lives we are told that we need to buy more because what we had yesterday, on November 26th, that we were thankful for is no longer enough. Rev. Marjorie Matty will take a “tongue-in-cheek” look at what she affectionately refers to as the Holidaze. Join us on November 15th at First Parish of Sudbury to remember and embrace our beloved traditions while saying “no” to what the holidays have become and are continually becoming.
At Social Hour following the service, the Living Our Faith Team will sponsor a legislative letter-writing session, this month in support of Single Payer Health Care.
And, quilt raffle tickets will be on sale, all proceeds from which will benefit the MetroWest Free Medical Program. If you really must buy something, buy raffle tickets to help those who can’t pay for basic medical care. Now, that’s a gift to give!
