Summer worship service explores a new way of discussing important topics
Lay-led summer services at First Parish of Sudbury continue Sunday, August 23, when Paul Reising and Tom Yelton host a demonstration of a “Salon” meeting that has evolved at First Parish over the past few years. Nominally an exchange of ideas and opinions focused on a topic from the realm of spirituality, science or a related field, it rests on the precepts of Bohmian dialogue, “a freely-flowing group conversation in which participants attempt to reach a common understanding, experiencing everyone’s point of view fully, equally and nonjudgementally.” (Wikipedia) The Salon emphasizes the values of inclusiveness, active listening and mutual respect. Those attending the service will comprise the salon and experience it for themselves. The service begins at 10:00 AM, preceded by a continental breakfast at 9:30. Both are held upstairs in the air-conditioned Commons. All are welcome.
