Nursery care is available during worship this weekend!

  • Religious Exploration for children and youth in grades K-8:

This Sunday, October 20, Sonia Prince will be leading the children in a lesson about climate change and our environmental impact.  We will be exploring our Violet Promise, “Value the Earth”, with a story and discussion about ways we can help our environment from home. We will also be making an eco-friendly craft to bring home with us!

  • Junior Youth Group for youth in grades 6-8:

At 12:00 on Sunday, we invite youth to join us in getting involved in our community by making mini-rally signs that will be compiled as packets by UUMass Action and given to our Massachusetts Legislators as an important message about why we should take action now.

  • Special Styrofoam Recycling Announcement from Sonia:

Sudbury has a styrofoam recycling collection coming up!  If you have styrofoam material around your house you wish to recycle (does not include take out containers), please bring it to church on Sunday and Sonia will bring it to the recycling drive.

RE Program Open House this Sunday!

Come learn about our religious exploration programs at First Parish of Sudbury during our Open House this Sunday, October 20, from 9:15-9:45 a.m. Religious Exploration at First Parish nurtures the spiritual growth of children and youth from infancy through high school, supporting them as they build a loving community, explore world religions and faith traditions, seek truth and meaning, and work together to make positive change in the world.   • Religious Exploration for children and youth in grades K-8:

This Sunday, October 13, our all-ages Religious Exploration class will encourage our students to think about the rituals and symbols, both secular and religious, that are part of their lives.  Together we will explore our everyday rituals, the rituals that are part of our spiritual practice, and the symbols that are meaningful to us as Unitarian Universalists.  Students will also have an opportunity to play a symbol game, and they will use watercolors to create unique symbols that represent them as individuals.

  • Religious Exploration for children and youth in grades K-8:

Flames class (grades K-3):This week, the students will meet with their teachers to begin their year of Moral Tales, and their introductory lesson will include an opportunity to create a Flames class covenant, as well as a story and games that center on the themes of interconnectedness and empathy.

Explorers class (grades 4-8):  The older students in our program will begin their Toolbox of Faith curriculum this Sunday, with a lesson that includes a story, discussion and cooperative activities that introduce the “tools” of our UU faith.  The students will create their class covenant together and spend time thinking about the important role each of them plays in the interdependent web of existence.

Religious Exploration Program Volunteer Training Meeting This Sunday

Jenna Kyes will be holding a Training Meeting for Religious Exploration Program Volunteers this Sunday, September 29, from 9:00am to 9:30am.  Please join us if you would like to volunteer in the program this year, or if you would like to learn more about RE volunteer opportunities!  Please remember to bring along a photo ID for a CORI check. 

We are actively seeking volunteers for this year! Volunteering in the RE program is rewarding and fun, and it’s also a wonderful way to contribute to our congregation!  We have a number of volunteer slots available this fall!  Here are some of our exciting volunteer roles:

  • Leading or assisting Religious Exploration classes for grades K-3 or 4-8
  • Leading a special “Share a Talent” class for our students
  • Helping in the First Parish Nursery with children ages 0-4
  • Helping with the Junior Youth Group’s Social Justice Outings
  • Helping with our Children’s Choir classes on special Arts Sundays

Please note: Every adult volunteering in the RE program must have an updated CORI check on file with First Parish before they are able to work with the children and youth.

  • Religious Exploration for children and youth in grades K-8:

This Sunday, September 29th, we will have a very special “Share a Talent” Religious Exploration class for students of all ages!  Artist Lane Williamson will lead our class this week, guiding the students in a lesson on the theme of beloved memories.  Students will think about and share some of their favorite memories from this summer, hear the story The Moon Was the Best, and create beautiful painted paper memory boxes to take home with them.
