Coming Up in RE

What’s happening this coming Sunday in our Religious Education Program for Children and Youth (through grade 8):

Children’s Religious Education at First Parish of Sudbury

First Parish of Sudbury will be offering wonderful Religious Exploration programs this year for children and youth on each Sunday.

Our Nursery: Ages 0-4, are now taking part in their own curriculum! Our littlest UU’s receive loving care from two of our amazing volunteers each week from First Parish, and those age one to four are able to take part in songs, stories, and arts and crafts geared towards building a foundation for Religious Exploration that will continue throughout their time here at First Parish. This caring and nurturing environment is designed to foster love and inclusion from the very beginning of what we hope will be a lifelong exploratory process.

Our preschool aged children ages 4-7 will gather weekly in the Commons for Spirit Play! This group will have programming designed to explore topics  through stories, art, and discussion, such as  cultivating appreciation and understanding of world religions, engaging in social justice activities, celebrating holidays and seasons, and building community.

Our UU Explorers, ages 8-14, will gather each week in the commons to engage in a customized curriculum designed to explore many of the previously mentioned topics, as well as fostering an understanding of our UU principles, and a better awareness of self and of others. This is an amazingly dynamic group, and our aim is to provide an environment in which each child feels comfortable to bring their whole selves each and every time we meet. This year we will be working on our “Free to Be Me” wall, a living collage which is designed to grow and change with the children throughout the year, as a living testament to all they have learned and accomplished here at First Parish. Photos will be posted soon!

On some Sundays, all of our children and youth (through grade 8) meet together for a special social justice activity or holiday celebration.

Religious Exploration – Due to Music Sunday last weekend, the lesson for the week was moved to this Sunday the 29th! Explorers this week will be continuing our lesson from last week’s humble beginnings.   Religious Exploration – April 9th –  April at First Parish brings with it a new month of education and exploration for our children and youth! This month’s theme is that of humility, and this week’s lesson is all about humble origins. From the tiny seed to the human cell, all things begin as a sort of “seed of life” or sacred geometry. This is considered the stage that comes before the flower of life, which produces the fruit of life, thought to be the blueprint of the universe containing every atom and...

Coming up in RE for April 2018 – This month in religious exploration, the children of First Parish will be focusing on the idea that humility is not thinking less of yourself but instead is thinking of yourself less. Affirming the inherent worth and dignity of all people is one of our core principles because as UUs we recognize that there is nothing noble about considering yourself to be above your fellow man. Using a mix of discussion, arts and inquiry, science, popcorn theology and more, the children of FPS will have a chance to...

Coming Up In RE: March 2018: This month in Religious Exploration, our children will be moving forward with the theme of “Transformation”. With Spring on the horizon, there’s no better time to begin talking about the transformation of seasons, of ideas, and of all living beings great and small. Our Explorers this month will be focusing on our first UU principle, affirming the inherent worth and dignity of all people, by looking at ways in which we each transform over time, and how we help others to do the same.
