Laughter is the Best Medicine…

Posted by on May 21, 2017 in General News, Worship Services | Comments Off on Laughter is the Best Medicine…

As the song from Mary Poppins explains, “I love to laugh long and loud and clear… I love to laugh it’s getting worse every year. The more I laugh the more I fill with glee… the more I laugh the more I am a merrier me!” How do we find those places of funny that tickle us in ways that improve our way of being. Rev. Dr. Marjorie Matty will be sharing her thoughts about the importance of humor and how it might just be the best medicine. We will also celebrate our Rites of Passage during which we will honor the growth...

In An Instant…

Posted by on May 21, 2017 in General News, Sunday Service Copies, Worship Services | Comments Off on In An Instant…

Life can change in an instant, any event can push itself into our lives, which can cause us moments of shock, pain and deep concern. Our lives and bodies broken are in turmoil and just as quickly the process of healing begins yet again – leaving us forever changed. How do we live these tenuous lives never knowing what may cut us off and derail us from our mission? Are these significant sidetracks a wake up call, karma or just random mishaps? Facing into crisis, making meaning and recovering from crisis, Rev. Dr. Marjorie Matty wonders...

Posted by on May 17, 2017 in General News | Comments Off on We Are Invited…Sunday at 11:30am to tour Loring Parsonage

The Sudbury Historical Society invites the congregation of the First Parish of Sudbury to an after service tour of the Loring Parsonage (288 Old Sudbury Road) on Sunday, May 21.  There is, of course, a special connection between the parsonage and the First Parish of Sudbury.  In 1722 Israel Loring became the first minister of the church and remained minister until he died at age 90 in 1772. The SHS is working toward restoring and repurposing the Loring Parsonage for the Sudbury History Center and looks forward to showing the members of First...

Sudbury Sr Center “FISH” program needs drivers

Posted by on May 17, 2017 in General News | Comments Off on Sudbury Sr Center “FISH” program needs drivers

Deb Galloway, director of the Sudbury Senior Center, reported that FISH (a network of volunteers that provide transportation to medical appointments to anyone in need, regardless of age or ability level) is currently in need of volunteer drivers. Volunteers would use their own vehicles to transport Sudbury residents to and from medical appointments. When a transportation need arises, a FISH coordinator contacts all volunteers to see who is available to help. If volunteers are not able to help on that particular day, there is no pressure from...

Posted by on May 17, 2017 in Coming Up in RE, DLRE Column, Religious Exploration | Comments Off on Religious Education May 21st

This Sunday is our Rites of Passage Sunday! We will honor the growth and commitment that every child in our religious exploration program has made this year with a gift of gratitude and recognition for their participation. We’ll also be celebrating the accomplishments of two cohorts within the grade school program as they cross thresholds that mark unique stages of growth in our children’s journeys, through our First Chalice and new Chrysalis Passage rituals. As we recognize these points of transition in the growth of their moral and...

What is a Woman’s and a Mother’s role in the twenty-first century–to be a care giver and a tender of the heart and hearth? Are Women  able to bring hope to the hopeless during dark times? What are those small daily acts of kindness and compassion that show our respect and love for one another? How do and can, “We go high when they go low” and do our small attempts to connect with others change people for the better? Ultimately, can the feminine heal our world? Join Rev. Dr. Marjorie Matty on mother’s day to honor and thank the women in...

Spirit Play will hear the story of Maria Mitchell, a nineteenth century Unitarian who became the first American woman to work as a professional astronomer. She received a gold medal from the King of Denmark for discovering a comet. They will wonder about the great things that women do and what the stars may have to teach them, too, on Mother’s Day. UU Explorers will explore the significance of gratitude, learn a gratitude meditation, and then put that energy towards our mothers on this special day. Breakfast Club will meet in the...

Thanks for your generosity

Posted by on May 9, 2017 in General News | Comments Off on Thanks for your generosity

About once each month we Share the Plate (our Sunday collection) with a worthy organization chosen by our Living Our Faith team. We usually receive thank-you notes from these organizations who sincerely appreciate all we can give, whether the amount is smaller or larger. Nancy Moore forwarded one such note recently from Jean Lubin, Founder of Head to Head, with whom we Shared the Plate on March 19. We were able to send $476 (half of the collection). Head to Head has been serving the poorest children of Belle Vue, Haiti for 19 years. Our...
