The Power to Change…the holidays

WebAfter service this Sunday, let us join together to think about how we, as a church community, can support each other in saying “no” to what the holidays have become. Let’s share together our best strategies to make the holidays truly meaningful for ourselves, our families, and our loved ones, and let’s also think about some ways we can prepare and celebrate together. In past years we have joined together to buy presents for families in need, and have done “Recycled Gifts” where we shop our closets for items we no longer need but others may enjoy, and the children are able to “shop” from those items, wrap, and give to their family members. We can make decorations together, or reach out and help those in need. Our elementary school religious education class, Sing to the Power, may have some ideas to share, as this Sunday they are planning a social action project to engage the church in before the holidays. Come find out and share your own ideas. Let us decide together what traditions we would like to remember and embrace the true meaning of the holidays, while saying “no” to what the holidays have become and are continually becoming.
